Akutagawa Ryūnosuke / 芥川 龍之介

A Japanese writer most prolific in the Taisho period of Japan (1912 to 1926).  He is regarded as ‘The Father of the Japanese Short Story’, and Japan’s premier literary award, the Akutagawa Prize, is named after him. He was born in 1892 and sadly departed this world by way of a drug overdose in 1927 at the age of 35.

Hayashi Fumiko was a writer and a poet whose works were noted for their feminist themes. The records are fuzzy, but she was most likely born in 1903 or 1904, and she passed away in 1951.
